LUCE represents the first spaceborne elastic-Raman-fluorescence LIDAR, utilizing a high-energy Nd:YAG laser to probe terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric properties. By capturing multi-wavelength backscattered echoes, the instrument provides an unprecedented dataset for characterizing clouds, aerosols, and cryosphere variables. This multi-disciplinary mission significantly advances geophysical remote sensing capabilities from space.
