Aggressively lightweighted ZERODUR mirror substrates enable the construction of high-performance optics up to several meters in diameter. These mirrors maintain superior passive thermal stability, structural strength, and radiation resistance while significantly reducing flight mass. This manufacturing capability makes ZERODUR a primary choice for large-scale spaceborne telescopes requiring high modal frequencies and long-term dimensional precision.
