The PLATO optical bench assembly employs carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) to maintain the mechanical and thermal stability required for 26 high-precision payload telescopes. The structure functions as a backbone for the spacecraft, providing essential support for thermal and electrical hardware while minimizing interface tolerances. This manufacturing effort builds on established aerospace expertise to ensure long-term pointing accuracy for exoplanet transit observations.
