This research analyzes the polarization behavior of depolarizers or scramblers used in Earth observation instrumentation. By modeling birefringent prisms, the study quantifies how phase retardation affects the instrument’s sensitivity to polarized incident light. These results are critical for designing accurate radiometric measurements and ensuring long-term performance under the harsh conditions of space, including radiation-induced degradation.
