Superpolished off-axis mirrors for the Roman Space Telescope utilize stress-polishing to achieve sub-nanometer form errors and ultra-low surface roughness. The process involves warping the substrate during polishing to compensate for final surface requirements, followed by spherical finishing to eliminate high-spatial-frequency errors. This production technique is vital for the wavefront control required in future coronagraphic instruments for exoplanet characterization.
