The Pyramid Piston Sensor (PPS) provides accurate, real-time detection of differential piston and phase discontinuities in segmented primary mirrors. By integrating the sensor into a laser guide star adaptive optics system, the work demonstrates precise co-phasing maintenance under realistic atmospheric conditions. This technology is vital for preserving diffraction-limited performance in next-generation large-aperture telescopes.
