This study characterizes Kerr nonlinearities within high-power optical amplifiers (HPOA) to improve performance in long-range free-space optical links. By treating the HPOA as a black box to quantify signal distortion, it establishes critical metrics for system sizing and link engineering. This allows for more precise signal management in GEO-ground or inter-orbit communication architectures.
