This ultra-compact, two-stage EDFA pre-amplifier provides 45 dB gain in a 42x30x15 mm form factor for laser communication terminals. It utilizes radiation-hardened reduced-cladding erbium-doped fibers tested up to 100 krad to ensure stability in harsh orbits. The design minimizes mass while maintaining low noise figures and high gain for long-range satellite data transmission.
