This hybrid silicon nitride/polysilicon photonic integrated circuit enables high-power solid-state beam steering for intersatellite optical links. By decoupling routing and switching layers, it overcomes silicon-based two-photon absorption, allowing for operation at powers exceeding 300 mW. This replaces heavy mechanical mirrors with a compact, vibration-insensitive, and power-efficient steering solution.
