This experimental study characterizes the in-situ response of fiber optic grating sensors when subjected to high-dose gamma radiation up to 200 krad(Si). By monitoring the optical response of various gratings during irradiation, the research develops critical self-calibration strategies for reliable deployment in planetary exploration missions. These findings confirm the robustness of fiber sensing technology for long-term health and parameter monitoring in ionizing space environments.
