The Vigil Heliospheric Imager is designed to detect faint coronal mass ejections from the L5 Lagrange point to support space weather monitoring. It utilizes a sophisticated baffling system, including diffractive rejection front baffles, to minimize straylight from the Sun and planetary sources. This precise optical bench configuration ensures high signal-to-noise detection of low-contrast solar phenomena.
