This project develops quantum memories based on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in rubidium atomic vapor to support long-distance quantum communication. The system allows for the slowing and storage of single photons, which is essential for creating quantum repeaters where standard amplification is forbidden. These EIT-based memories provide a pathway for overcoming signal loss in global-scale, satellite-linked quantum networks.
