Ga-free InAs/InAsSb type-II superlattices address the signal-to-noise limitations of conventional detectors by eliminating gallium-related trap centers. This material engineering approach extends minority carrier lifetimes and reduces dark current densities, facilitating high-performance long-wave infrared detection. These focal plane arrays are optimized for the challenging low-background requirements of space-based astronomy.
