CIICLOPE is a ground-based calibration concept using an active, steerable optical source to provide in-flight performance validation for Earth observation payloads. By utilizing a telescope-based projection system to illuminate orbiting sensors, this method eliminates the need for heavy onboard calibration hardware. Theoretical modeling and initial tracking tests demonstrate the feasibility of maintaining radiometric and spectral accuracy throughout a mission’s lifetime.
