Space-based Quantum Key Distribution system architecture is fundamentally driven by the mathematical security proofs required to bound adversary capabilities in noisy channels. This work bridges systems engineering and quantum theory to define how finite-size security implications dictate satellite requirements and protocol selection. The proposed guidelines align mission design with security standards to ensure the feasibility of future quantum satellite constellations.
